What does each mode do?
- For Time
- A fixed amount of work as fast as possible: a count-up clock with an optional time cap, sets with rest and, if you want, a beep every so many seconds. It is the format of Fran, DT or Murph.
- AMRAP
- As many rounds as possible in a fixed time; the clock counts down and you add rounds by tapping the round card. It can run in sets, with rest between them. How it is scored, in the AMRAP guide.
- EMOM
- One task at the start of every interval (every minute by default); the clock beeps as each one begins. In "Death By" the reps go up every interval and the clock keeps going until you press "Failed". How to build one, in the EMOM guide.
- Tabata
- Intervals of 20 seconds of work and 10 of rest, 8 rounds, with a beep at every change; work, rest, rounds and sets can be changed. The format and its variations are in the WOD formats glossary.
- MIX
- As in the app: chain two or more blocks, each with its own format (For Time, AMRAP, EMOM or Tabata), its own times and its own exercises. The transition can be manual (you press "Next block" when ready) or automatic, with a rest countdown between blocks. Which format to choose, in the WOD timer guide.
What does this timer not do?
- It saves no sessions on any server: the history lives only in this browser (the latest 20) and disappears if you clear the site data or switch devices.
- It does not sync with any account or with the Zoku Athletics app; the app's timer (in closed testing on Android) does record sessions in your account.
- It uses no cookies, asks for no sign-up and sends no data to any server: the set-up travels only in the URL if you choose to share it.
- The beep depends on the browser: on a phone, sound is enabled when you press start and can be muted by the phone's silent mode.
What are the most common questions?
Is it free, and does it work offline?
Yes. It works in any modern browser, with no sign-up, no cookies and nothing to download. Once the page has loaded, the clock needs no network; if you close the tab, you will need a connection to open it again.
Does it keep sounding if I switch tabs or the screen turns off?
The beeps are scheduled ahead of time on the browser's audio clock, so they do not depend on the tab being in front: on a computer they keep sounding with the tab in the background, and in Chrome for Android also with the screen off as long as the tab stays open; there, a media control to pause and resume may also appear. Voice cannot be scheduled and the browser does not guarantee it will speak in the background. In Safari on iPhone and iPad the sound stops when you lock the screen or switch apps; when you come back, the clock catches up instantly. In full screen, the timer asks the browser to keep the screen on (Wake Lock) if the browser supports it.
How do I share a set-up?
Press "Copy link": the URL carries the format and the times (for example, ?modo=emom&min=10&int=60; a MIX carries its blocks, such as ?modo=mix&bloques=amrap-10,emom-10-60), plus the sets, the signal, Death By and the exercises if they fit. Whoever opens it sees the timer already set up.
Does it keep a history? How is it different from the app?
Finished sessions (date, format, time, rounds and sets) are saved only in this browser, up to 20 and kept apart per user if you are signed in, and you can delete them whenever you want; nothing is sent anywhere or synced. The Zoku Athletics app's timer records sessions in your account and links them with benchmarks and the rest of the features; the app is in closed testing on Android.
How do I count rounds in an AMRAP?
By tapping the round card (or pressing N) every time you complete one, as in the app. With sets, each set counts its rounds separately. At the end, the score is the full rounds plus the extra reps of the last one.
What is MIX mode?
A sequence of two or more blocks, each with its own format, times and exercises, like the MIX in the app. Between blocks you either press "Next block" (manual transition) or the clock rests for the seconds you set and starts on its own (automatic).
How can I try Zoku Athletics?
The Free plan is free, with no card and no expiry. Pro and Elite are paid; what each includes is shown in the plans section of the home page.
